Press Release – 3.38.2014

On behalf of all our volunteers and client families, the board of directors of North Valley Food Bank would like to bring the community of Whitefish up to date on some recent very good news. On February first of this year, the Burlington Northern Sante Fe Foundation (BNSF) awarded our food bank a $10,000 grant to be utilized towards completion of our new building.

North Valley Food Bank joins a long line of historically involved charitable groups that have existed since Whitefish’s early days. In talking with Matt Jones, Regional Director of Public Affairs for the BNSF, we reminisced about the Whitefish Woman’s Club running their serviceman’s canteen at the Great Northern Railway Depot. In 1943, over 140,000 passengers were served by this dedicated local group of individuals. Even then, all food and drink was donated and free of charge to passengers. The BNSF Railroad, railroading and community pride runs deep throughout our town’s history. Whitefish works hard to help its neighbors in need. Because of the ongoing support of our community, all supplemental food distributed from our food bank is free and our volunteers make it happen. North Valley Food Bank is honored to have received this grant from the BNSF Foundation.

BNSF Employees may not be aware that their employer will also match personal contributions from $100.00 to a maximum of $20,000.00 per individual employee per year. We have sign up forms available at the food bank, or Deanna Dugas, Manager BNSF Foundation can be reach at Deanna.dugas@bnsf.com.
