— FAQ —

How do I sign up for a shift?

Follow the volunteer application instructions above. You can access your My Impact account using the button above or by using the My Impact App. Once signed in go to the Opportunities Calendar and click on a shift you would like to sign up for.

I can’t see or sign up for shifts on My Impact, what should I do?

If you are unable to see your shifts on My Impact it most likely means you have not volunteered in over a year and our system has archived you. Please contact our Volunteer Coordinator to be re-activated.

What should I do if I need to cancel my shift?

Please cancel your shift as soon as you can. Log into My Impact and remove yourself from the schedule, this will send an email to our Volunteer Coordinator letting them know there is an open shift.

Can I volunteer in the evening or on weekends?

Our normal hours of operation are Mon.-Thurs. 7am-6pm. We are generally closed on the weekends unless we have an event, Holiday Distribution, or seasonal harvest. If you are interested in volunteering in the evening or on the weekend contact our Volunteer Coordinator to talk about other opportunities.

Where should I park while volunteering?

Please park across the street in the upper Wave parking lot. We reserve the parking lot in front of our building for customers, food donations, and deliveries. If you are a volunteer in need of mobility support please park in our front parking lot or contact our Volunteer Coordinator to discuss options.

How early should I get there for my shift?

Please arrive 5 min early to put your personal belongings away and wash your hands. If this is your first shift please arrive 10 min early to situate yourself to our building and meet your staff facilitator. Please do not arrive earlier than 5-10 min before your shift, our staff members plan projects for the timeframe of the shift and need time to set up before volunteers show up.

I am sick, should I still come in for my shift?

If you are sick please do not come in for your shift. Instead, contact our Volunteer Coordinator so a substitute can be found. Please refer to our illness policy below.

How old do I need to be to volunteer?

We have a variety of different shifts for families and kids. Volunteers aged 1-15 need to be accompanied by an adult. Volunteers aged 16+ can volunteer on their own. Every volunteer needs to fill out a volunteer application before coming as well as a Guardian Consent Form if they are under 18. If you are under 8 years old please contact our Volunteer Coordinator ahead of time to make sure that they are assigned an appropriate shift.

Can I bring my family to Volunteer?

Yes! We love having the family come in to volunteer. We ask that each individual has filled out a volunteer application and signed up on My Impact and each minor has a completed Guardian Consent Form uploaded to their my impact account before volunteering. See “How old do I need to be to volunteer?” above for more info.

I have an injury or limited mobility. Can I still come and volunteer?

Yes, depending on your shift. If you are signed up for a Rescue Driver, Boxer, or another heavy lifting shift please contact our Volunteer Coordinator to discuss if the shift is appropriate. For folks with limited mobility we have specific seated and modified shifts, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator for more information.

Can I bring people with me to volunteer?

We love when volunteers bring their loved ones to volunteer with them. Before they come in please have them fill out the appropriate volunteer application and sign up for the shift that you are on. If you have questions, contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

How long are your volunteer shifts?

Most of our shifts are 2-3 hrs long. We have a few shifts like our Group Volunteer Shift and our Kid Snack Shift that are 1 hour long. If you have questions about a shift email contact our Volunteer Coordinator.

Is there a minimum number of hours I need to volunteer?

No, you are welcome to sign up for however many shifts work for you. It is helpful for our operations to have consistent volunteers but we also understand that not everyone has a consistent weekly schedule.

I would like to sign up for a consistent shift on a weekly basis, can I do that?

Yes! We love when community members sign up consistently! It is extremely helpful to our operations. If you are interested in a specific shift sign in to My Impact and sign up for all of those shifts. The volunteer schedule is built out on 4 month increments.

I have specific expertise I think would be useful, who should I tell?

Please specify on your volunteer application any skills you would like to share while volunteering or let a staff member know.
